In Timberwolf Theatre, every class will get the opportunity to watch live theatre in Austin:
Beginners Classes have previously visited the Paramount Theatre (SHOW WAY: THE MUSICAL, Spring 2024) and the ZACH Theatre (DON’T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS! THE MUSICAL (Spring 2025) and enjoy a picnic lunch at Zilker Park after!
8th Grade HS Theatre I and Production Classes have previously visited The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Theatre and Dance (THE SMARTEST GIRL IN THE WORLD, Fall 2023, and JAMES AND THE GAINT PEACH, Fall 2024), touring the 40 Acres and eating at a local dining hall!
The Musical Theatre class recently enjoyed a trip to Bass Concert Hall at UT Austin to attend a daytime showing of THE OUTSIDERS (Broadway in Austin, Texas Performing Arts, Fall 2025)!
About the Director

Mr. Benjamin Brumbelow-Montero , born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020 with his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Education. He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to start his career as a special educator through Teach For America while earning his Master of Arts in Education at Alverno College, graduating in May 2022. He returned to Texas after accepting the job at Dailey Middle School, and he has not looked back since. He loves the community at Dailey and Del Valle, and he strives to create positive experiences for the students and outlets to express themselves healthily on and off the stage. In his free time, Mr. Montero loves to read books and plays, write, watch movies, cook breakfast for his wife, and travel with her to various National Parks across the country. You may occasionally see him act with some community theaters around Austin in the summers, something his students recently inspired him to pursue after acting alongside them once in Spring 2025. If he is not doing either of those, he is at home playing video games and lounging with his two cats, Gemma and Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
Classes Offered
Beginner’s Theatre (MS Theatre I)
Beginner's Theatre is a class for incoming 6th grade students.
From August-November, students in this class will learn about audience etiquette, the fundamentals of acting (voice, enunciation, pantomime, stage directions, improvisation), and creative writing (how to read a script, elements of a script, elements of story), eventually leading to their first performance in December (Annual Theatre Showcase).
From January-April, students will learn about the technical aspects of theatre (lights, set, costumes, props, sound) while maintaining their skills as actors (puppetry). In March, students will get hands-on experience with audition etiquette and audition interviews in preparation for their Annual End-of-Year Production. Since this is a full production, students have the opportunity to audition for leading roles and interview for leading positions for their class’s technical crew. Once acting and tech roles are assigned, students immerse themselves in the process of bringing a play to life similar to the Advanced classes. All this will lead to a final performance that will end our school year!
This class has TWO After School Performances (one in December, one in May) that count as FOUR TEST GRADES EACH.
HS Theatre I
High School (HS) Theatre I is offered to 8th grade students only, whether it's their first time taking theatre or they have taken the class previously. Students in this class have the opportunity to earn high school credit through this course, allowing them to knock out the one fine arts credit needed to graduate high school before they arrive at high school!
From August-November, students will review or learn about audience etiquette, the fundamentals of acting (voice, enunciation, pantomime, stage directions, improvisation), and creative writing (monologue project, letter to self). Their Performance Event Grade requires assembling and running a Haunted House at the school’s annual Homecoming Dance/Fall Ball!
From January-May, students will dive deep into technical theatre and be in-class technicians for our Annual Spring Production. All work in class will consist of tech-based projects where students get to create props, set pieces, lighting designs, and/or costume designs for our respective Main Stage Production. Once the production is over, students will participate in case studies around plays, analyzing the text for its narrative merit and create tech-based projects based on the script read.
This class has ONE After School Performance (October) that counts for THREE TEST GRADE. All project-based work counts for MULTIPLE TEST GRADES.
Advanced Production (Theatre II/III and Musical Theatre)
Theatre Production (Theatre II and Musical Theatre) is the Honors Theatre Course for 7th and 8th grade students who want to commit to maintaining the high standard of excellence in Timberwolf Theatre.
At the start of each semester, work on our first Main Stage shows begins (UIL One Act Play in the Fall, Annual Spring Production soon after). All class work for the Production class will consist of acting rehearsals and technical theatre work, bringing the play to life through a disciplined, fun, and rewarding production process.
Since Students in the Production Classes will dive deeply into the process of bringing a play to life, they will commit to attending after school rehearsals for Main Stage Productions.
Students in the Production classes also take advantage of extended opportunities to positively represent Timberwolf Theatre (Dailey Annual Winter Fine Arts Showcase, Dailey Black History Month Showcase, DVISD Annual Fine Arts Showcase, DVISD Summer Musical Theatre Program, Beginners’ Showcase/EOY Play, and more).
This class has MULTIPLE AFTER SCHOOL PERFORMANCES for UIL One Act Play AND Spring Production, all which count as MULTIPLE TEST GRADES.

WE WELCOME ALL STUDENTS TO JOIN TIMBERWOLF THEATRE!
Although some of our productions are exclusive to certain classes, the Annual Spring Production will always be open to students not enrolled in any of the Theatre Classes.
If you would like to participate in any of the class specific Timberwolf Theatre Productions, talk to Mr. Montero in Room 608/Stage or come to after school ACE.
